“Feeling real is more than existing; it is finding a way to exist as oneself... and to have a self into which to retreat for relaxation.”

Catalina Young

PhD, LPC, BC-TMH

Catalina is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and a Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider with over two decades of experience across diverse cultural and clinical settings. Her background includes private clinical practice as well as academic roles and international humanitarian work. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Babes-Bolyai University in Romania and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Center for Applied and Psychological Family Studies at the Family Institute, Northwestern University.

Her work is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy and informed by attachment, existential, and trauma-based perspectives. Areas of clinical experience include persistent anxiety, depression, shame, grief, emotional overwhelm, dissociation, life transitions, and the lasting effects of developmental and relational trauma. She also works with adults who feel emotionally isolated, caught in self-blame, or find themselves returning to familiar struggles despite considerable effort to understand and change.

Catalina attends closely to the ways people come to know themselves in relation to others, to their histories, and to the questions that bring them to therapy. Her clinical approach recognizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship in exploring present concerns with consistent care and respect for the complexity of each person’s experience. In addition to clinical practice, she facilitates an international consultation group for psychodynamically-informed practitioners and continues to engage with contemporary developments in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

TELEHEALTH CLINICAL PRACTICE

Catalina provides individual psychodynamic psychotherapy to adults across Texas.

By breaking down logistical and geographic barriers, teletherapy has broadened access to mental health services, offering a viable alternative to traditional in-person therapy. Collaborative attention to the telehealth setting, together with the capacity of both therapist and the person in therapy to remain emotionally present and engaged, can support meaningful and sustained therapeutic work.
